Theodosia Burr Alston was the daughter of (at that time) Senator Aaron Burr and Theodosia Bartow Prevost Burr. Her father, Aaron Burr, stressed her education in both traditionally male and female subjects during her childhood, much of which happened in New York. She was lost at sea at the age of 29 in January 1813, though the exact date is estimated to be about January 2nd or 3rd. There were many stories about her after she was lost, many involving pirates or wreckers. Mrs. Alston was named for her mother, also named Theodosia Burr, who died when her daughter was about ten.
Theodosia Burr Alston was instrumental in the push to bring her father home from exile, writing to the first lady for his safe passage, though this attempt was not susscessful. She was involved in her father's design for his western conspiricy, whatever that was- it's still unknown what Mr. Burr's intentions were.
