Harlem is a large community-orientated neighborhood in northeast New York City. It was founded in 1658 and has a population of approximately 335,109 (2000 estimate).
Per the musical Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton suggests that he and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton move to Harlem after getting married (in "Helpless"), as the houses in Harlem were smaller in size but less in price and were good for people beginning to start their careers, such as Hamilton himself.
